At Home Bandage Care Instructions

The following are our recommendations for the optimal recovery of your pet:

  • Follow all labelled instructions for dispensed medication carefully.
  • It is vital to keep this bandage clean and dry during the time that it is in place. The patient should remain indoors and confined to a small room. If the patient can go outside to go to the bathroom, then a glove or plastic bag must be placed over the foot and the length of the bandage. This should be done even if the ground appears to be dry as many pets can unintentionally urinate on their large bulky bandage, necessitating a bandage change.
  • Sometimes a dog may be bothered by the presence of a bandage. Elizabethan collars can be beneficial if they just resent the limb or the toes being confined, but excessive chewing or licking should not be overlooked, and veterinary advice should be requested if you are worried.
  • The top of the bandage, particularly in straight-legged dogs may tend to “telescope” down the leg. This can cause the material to bunch up and abrade the limb. If this occurs, or chaffing or rubbing occurs for other reasons, the bandage should be changed.
  • Routine check-up in 3-5 days or based on what instructions were given by your Vet.

It was a pleasure looking after your loved one.
